Actually, there's only one reason. Cost. Database storage space costs money, money the publishers (being an operation based around making as much money as possible) want to cut back on. It's a fantastic reason on the publisher's part for only providing 4 character slots and very little storage room, but for the consumer? Not so much.

I agree that seven (7) slots would be the perfect number. Yes in three (3) slots (or as pointed out one (1)) you could run all six professions, but also as pointed out you could not do so as PRIMARY professions. You cannot fully play each profession without experiencing it as a primary, this is simple fact. The seventh of course being used for the re-useable PvP character. Considering the number of professions in Diablo II, last I played that game I had running about 12 to 15 different characters. Imagine that.

Haha and that is why I have not gotten another account. ^_~ I'd pay for a couple slots if Anet would let us not start those with a truly blank slate, everything we have unlocked, still unlocked, accounts connected. Better if they do it for free, but server space details are unknown to me.

Anet: please make it so. ^^

I couldn't even stomach the PvE portion of this game long enough to complete 1 character...I don't know why any of you would want to do it 7 times....

i am assuming you are a hardcore pvper then?

if you are pve and despise the game so much why not play something you like better?

NOTE that was not a get lost it was a serious question to understand why you would stay where you hated it

LoL, that's humorous. However I enjoy the storyline; I beleive it to be quite unique as instead of sticking with one 'story' its more a bunch of short stories plugged together. Kinda like Sin City. Actually from a certain view it is one story, it's the story of your character's adverture and what happens to him/her from one situation to another.

But anyway, I'll certainly play the game as each profession primary through the storyline. Which if I do the math correcty is only six (6) times, not seven (7). The seventh slot would exist for the recyclable PvP character without having to delete a PvE character that one has invested time and effort into building up. As it stands for now I'll just have to eventually sacrifice a couple of characters that I've invested in unless of course the character slot issue gets resolved. Either way, such is life.

Remaking a pvp build every time you want to switch characters is extremely tedious, not to mention you stand the chance of losing your much valued name.

If they are going to keep it at 4 slots they should give us the option of creating our own personal pvp templates. Kind of like the premade templates that are there now, but maybe a seperate tab of them where you could make and save as many build templates as you wanted. They would be stored on your local system and not the server so there would be no increase in disk space needed on the servers.

Guild Wars really needs this feature.

True, but there is also talk of new professions. If they add 6 more professions and 4 more slots then we will have the same problem.

Did you forget that GW is free, to have more characters would mean more server space, which would mean more $$

"Four seemed a good number at the time of release. Making decisions is part of an RPG, we all know that. No one can expect a limitless inventory, for instance. We like four, but we're considering the possibilities of more in the future. I believe that when the next campaign comes along, we will see an increase in slots. No idea by how much, but we wouldn't release a new campaign and ask that you wipe a character to play it! "

From the following interview:
http://guildwars.gameamp.com/guildwars/gwInterview

Personally, I also feel that four slots were too few, six would have been great for me, and I can understand the argument for seven. At any rate, I'll be looking forward to the new campaign if for no other reason than the additional slots! Let's just hope that slots won't be specific to each campaign...

Imo, 6-7 slots seems a nice amount.

I'm a pvp'er after doing the game 4 1/2 times over, (still do pve from time to time..) not gonna delete all of my pve characters as i've had to do already with a few of them.
In pvp now playing all characters its a right pain having to remake characters each time to play different proffessions, so yeh.. 6-7 slots, even at least one more slot would be appreciated.

i would like just a fifth slot to be honest, ive had this urge to play a warrior but i didnt want to delete one of my 2 pvp slots, "old faithful" (spiker) and the one that i use to experiment with builds. so i could keep both pvp slots and have a W/N (i have an E/Me and a R/Mo)in fact i once had a W/N before but deleted him at lvl 8 i forget why, i think it was to make space for my R/Mo that one more slot will make me very happy.
